Name:
Location: Southern, Missouri, United States

I am a 40 something Christian woman, married to a wonderful, romantic man and we have two sweet daughters. We live in an old two story cottage home on 3 little acres just inside our small town city limits. We enjoy having our friends and family into our home and living in a rural community with southern hospitality and charm. I enjoy our little country church and the families that we fellowship with there. Our home used to be a Tea Room that my Mama and I, along with my daughters, owned and operated. (See "Tea Rooms" located in my Labels.) It was so much fun and we hope to have another Tea Room someday. I love romantic things and like my home and clothing to reflect romance. I love bird houses and hearts and I have them around various parts of my home. Basically, I love everything romantic and I am a "Romantic at Heart." :) I hope to meet many new blogging friends here and share recipes and decorating ideas.

The Silver Dollar City KSMU Youth In Bluegrass Contest!

The Lane Family is excited to annouce......we've been accepted at the Silver Dollar City KSMU "Youth In Bluegrass Contest"! We are very excited about this event and have been spending our evenings "pickin' & grinnin'..." so we'll be ready. Of course, while we are in Branson and Silver Dollar City, we fully intend to have a GREAT time enjoying the festivities.

Below is some info on a previous contest.

October 2nd, 2002 Silver Dollar City and KSMU Host Bluegrass Contest:

Related Link: Silver Dollar CityListen In support of young persons involved in Bluegrass music, Silver Dollar City and KSMU hosted the 1st annual Youth in Bluegrass Band Contest on September 28th and 29th.

The competition was fierce those two days as 7 finalists did their best to impress the judges and the audience at the Branson theme park's Festival of American Music and Craftsmanship. With word of the contest and it's first place prize money of $1,000.00 quickly spreading on the internet, in Bluegrass trade magazines, and on Bluegrass radio shows throughout the Midwest, there was no shortage of interest in the contest according to D.A. Callaway, the Entertainment and Events Supervisor at Sliver Dollar City.

Callaway says Silver Dollar City has for a very long time been promoting and cheerleading for our Nations youth. The Youth in Bluegrass Band Contest is open to bands whose members are under 21 years of age but if a parent or parents of band members are also part of the group, they too can participate.

Indeed every finalist in this years contest was a true family band or had at least 2 siblings in it's group. D.A. Callaway says the family setting is where the youngsters learn to play and appreciate the music.

Hymn Story

HOW GREAT THOU ART! (Psalm 145:2, 3)

The original text was written by a Swedish pastor, Carl Boberg, in 1886.

While visiting a beautiful country estate, Boberg was caught in a sudden thunderstorm. The awesome and violent lightning and thunder quickly ended, leaving clear brilliant sunshine and the calm, sweet singing of the birds in the trees. Falling on his knees in awe and adoration of Almighty God, the pastor wrote nine stanzas of praise. Swedish congregations began to sing his lines to one of their old folk tunes.

For Today: Deuteronomy 3:24; Psalm 48:1; Isaiah 40:26, 28; Romans 1:20

Take time to think once again about the unfathomable greatness of God and His wonderful redeeming love for each of us.

3. Hymn Story

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus
(Hebrews 12:2)
In 1918, Helen Howarth Lemmel, the author and composer of this hymn, was given a tract by a missionary friend. As she read it, Helen's attention was focused on this line : "So then turn your eyes upon Him, look full into His face, and you will find that the things of earth will aquire a strange new dimness."
The verses were written in the same week.
Since that day, Helen Lemmel's hymn has been translated into many languages and used by God to challenge believers around the world with the necessity of living devoted lives for His glory.

Cajun Kettle

Thursday Nights

5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Nearly every thursday night, you can come hear us play and sing at "The Cajun Kettle Restaurant," on the square, in Mountain Grove. It is a fun place for us to play at and we really enjoy it! Some friends of ours wrote an article for the local newspaper about the restaurant. You can read it below.

***************************************************************************

Traveling Our Back Yard
With Les & Reba Howe

Now that Christmas and New Year’s are but a wonderful memory and all the leftovers, turkey and ham are eaten and tucked away in the freezer; in other words, we are tired of eating leftovers.

Some friends invited us out to a unique restaurant here in Mountain Grove. It is located in the town square. “The Cajun Kettle,” family owned and operated by Melissa and Everett Cantrelle. They moved here from down in the Cajun country. Houma, a town just west of New Orleans, is where Melissa grew up in a large family.

When we asked, “How long have you been cooking?” she laughed and answered, “At a very early age, my father told me I was the best cook in our family of seventeen, although I was one of the younger kids.” Melissa also said that while growing up, the family vegetable garden covered three acres and she is unfamiliar in using prepared food for cooking.

It was a Thursday night. They call it “Senior Buffet Night.” The prices are reasonable and the aroma of spices in this beautiful old building that was constructed in the early 1900’s is wonderful!

Also, on Thursday night, “The Lane Family” entertains the customers with their Bluegrass Gospel music. Katherine and her daughters, Alissa and Shanna, have been singing at “The Cajun Kettle” for about a year. It was a very relaxing evening.

We asked Melissa, “Why did they relocate to Mountain Grove.” She said, “It was a vision from God and the family is very blessed with all the friends we have made here.”

When Melissa isn’t out in the kitchen cooking or greeting customers, she has been known to sing a request. She has a great voice!

“The Cajun Kettle” opened in September of 2005.

Les and I appreciate this smoke-free environment when we go out to eat. We hope when you read this, you will visit “The Cajun Kettle.” Maybe we will see you there.

May God bless everyone who reads this!

The Link Family Band
From Lebanon Missouri

The family consists of Rachel (19), Kyle (17), Benjamin (11), Aaron (8), John (6), Becky (Mom) and Lance (Dad). Each member of the family participates in performing. Rachel brings to the group a strong lead and harmony voice while playing mandolin and bass. Kyle plays all the instruments on stage, mostly fiddle and guitar while singing lead and harmony. Benjamin also plays all the instruments on stage, mostly banjo, sings lead and harmony. Aaron sings lead, plays the old-time spoons and guitar. John plays rhythm sticks, old-time spoons, sings lead and is learning fiddle. Becky plays rhythm guitar while singing lead and harmony. Lance brings in the foundation sound on the bass fiddle, sings bass as well as being our bus driver, sound man, and manager.

"The Link family has been very encouraging to us and we have really appreciated it!" -The Lane Family
http://www.linkfamilymusic.com/

The Millers Family Band
From Springfield Missouri

This family of four (with an adopted mandolin player) are known for their rich harmony, wide ranging musical skills and family oriented bluegrass shows. They have taken the Southwest Missouri area by storm in the past 2 years making numerous appearances at all the great venues, big and small, including; Starvy Creek Bluegrass Festival, Conway, MO. Silver Dollar City Bluegrass & Barbecue Festival, Branson, MO. The Coleman Theater, Miami, OK. and Snyder Park Bluegrass Festival, Halltown, MO.... just to name a few.
"We met the Millers at the MSU Ozarks Celebration Festival and they were very helpful andfriendly. We hope to get to know them better soon!" - The Lane Familyhttp://www.themillers-bluegrass.com/

The Greer Family Band
From Lebanon Missouri

Since September 2002, they have been performing their bluegrass ballads and gospel songs at functions and festivals throughout the Ozarks of Missouri and Arkansas. Lindley Creek Bluegrass is the Greer family--John Rob and wife, Kathie; their fourteen year old son, Tate; their ten year old son, Jase, on fiddle; and Robbie Bryant. This group’s talent lies in picking acoustic instruments, singing harmonies, and even composing original songs. The band borrows its name from the Lindley Creek River in Southwestern Missouri (where John Rob grew up on a farm bordering it). Coaxed by some friends, the family nurtured their musical talents until they felt ready to perform for big audiences.

The Bankaster Family Band

It’s hard to beat the sweet sound of family harmonies, and the Bankester family has got some of the sweetest harmonies around. The Bankester sisters have grown up in a musical home. Ranging in age from eleven to eighteen, the girls are always singing around the house. Melissa is the oldest of the sisters, singing and playing the upright bass and banjo. Lindsey plays the mandolin and adds some of the lower vocal harmonies. Emily charms audiences with her sweet sounding lead voice and fiddle playing. Alysha adds a constant sparkle to the family with her fiddle, sweet voice, and infectious smile. Dorene (mom) and Phil (dad) both play guitar and sing with the girls.

LFM October Newsletter 2006

Is It October already?
We are still "recovering" from September.
It was quite a busy month for our family.

****In This Issue****
1. New Bass Player
2. New Cd information
3. Gospel Music Not Allowed
4. New Blog
5. This Month's Quote

*************************************************
1. New Bass Player

Jim has accepted a new position with his job at Air-Evac and

has been working more hours than usual. So, that has

changed our band situation as far as him playing the bass

guitar for us. Thankfully we had another family member

that has bass experience just ready and willing to step in

there and help when we needed it.........

............Drum roll please............

It is my mother Karen Conley. She has decided to "try it out

slowly" and has been playing the past few weeks with us and

has even agreed to possibly sing with us on a few songs. We

are very excited about that.

*******************************************************
2. New Cd Information

We are still working on our new Cd's and are getting quite

familiar with the new sound system and recording program.

I must admit that these will be a much better sound quality

than our other Cd's "Love Of The Mountains" and "Just

Over In The Glory Land" and we are thankful for that.

(We will let you know as soon as they available)

*******************************************************
3. Gospel Music Not Allowed

We were very blessed to play at a place last month that had

never allowed Gospel music to be played. We really felt like

God had a purpose for this and even though many things

happened (Shanna was ill and didn't even get to go with us)

it actually turned out to be a good event. (And Shanna has

recovered and is doing fine.)
*******************************************************
4. New Blog

We have a new blog where you may post your comments about music and also add your music related link to your website. It is at http://www.lanefamilymusic.blogspot.com/

2007
It's already 2007. It seems that 2006 just flew by. What a year it was for us. We enjoyed almost every minute of it.
This year has a lot in store for us. We have many new opportunities opening up for us to play our music and this is very exciting. We love to play and sing together and it is such a great feeling to share that love with others.
We also have met some wonderful people this past year and are hoping to meet many more in 2007.
May God Bless you in 2007!

Pumpkin Festival

We had a lot of fun over the weekend at the Rockin H Ranch in Norwood, MO. We were part of the entertainment and enjoyed singing and playing for the people there.

But there was a bit of trouble buzzing around.......literally........as soon as we got out of our van and started tuning our instruments, Shanna got stung by a yellow jacket. It hurt her arm and she was worried about not being able to play very well. But Cody and Dawnnell came to the rescue with a burn spray that numbed the skin and made the swelling go down. We thought that was the end......but there were more of those little stingers and they continued to buzz by us all the time we were playing, landing on our strings, fingers and such. It was kind of scary and annoying at the same time since I am allergic to the little stingers.

Then Papa came up on stage and sprayed us with some skin-so-soft by Avon and that seemed to help out. They came back but didn't stick around.

After we were done entertaining, the fiddle contest began and Shanna wanted to give it a try. She ended up with the 3rd place title and a nice little check to go along with it. The first place winner had to stop in the middle of his tune because the yellow jacket came and landed on his hand. Those little stingers were just determined to be pests that day.

All in all, it was a good day and we all really enjoyed ourselves.

Here's the website link for where we were. It is a fun place to visit. www.rockinh.net
